Specialising in unique and homegrown designs, Rex was a favourite dispensary of fashion for the Hollywood hunks and starlets who invaded Wellington during the filming of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Local design features heavily at Rex Royale, making it a haven for those who like to buy kiwi-made and support homegrown talent.

Welcome to my most excellent new website...created by the very talented Kristy Mayes(special k). A long time staffee at Rex many years ago, to psychofant designer/tailor extraordinaire, to the clever idea of hometown names on tees and hoods Localitees. She now designs and BUILDS (Geek Sheik) websites. Also thanking heliocell and Robert Apeirdo for my previous site.. RIP. David Reed and Robert for letting me use their pics again and all the customers, designers and artists, publicists (Phil Reed), radio stations (active 89 fm), my staff (Love you Guys) and my mates for supporting me and putting up with my slow days and busy days...yes owning your own business can turn you into a psycho sometimes. Mum, you've been an angel.

Beginning in 1997 – now ten years old, folks! – Rex Royale specialised in dead men's threads, with owner Jacqi Condra getting up at ungodly hours on Saturday mornings to scour the warehouses for fabulous vintage gear. The retro threads are long gone, replaced by Dr Rex's personal favourites in the realms of streetwear, casual and cool.
Rex Royale's racks of iconic kiwi t-shirts have made it a favourite among tourists and New Zealanders sending kiwiana keepsakes to ex-pat family and friends abroad.
Music is no stranger to Rex Royale either, with the all-day long Bed-to-Air for World Peace being staged from Rex Royale's front window, morphing the space into part-bed, part-stage for Wellington performers like Tommy Ill, Barnaby Weir (The Black Seeds) and Module.
